Geneviève ASSE - Detailed biography

Geneviève Asse was born in Vannes in 1923. She settled in Paris in 1932 and worked at the Delalain editions. She studied at the National School of decorative art. Then, she worked in the Montparnasse workshops and exhibited at the Salon des moins de trente ans and at the Salon d’automne. She was volunteer in the French resistance during World War two and received the Croix de Guerre.

After the war, she came back to Paris where she met
Samuel Beckett, André Lanskoy, Serge Poliakoff, Serge Charchoune, Nicolas de Staël, Bram and Geer van Velde. She had her first personal exhibition at the Michel Warren gallery in Paris in 1954. She illustrates also many written works (Y. Bonnefoy, Beckett, Frénaud, André du Bouchet, Ponge, etc.) by etching.

Geneviève Asse bought a house in the
Île-aux-Moines (Golfe du Morbihan) where she still works on painting, drawing and etching.
