The 1962-1963 strikes in Spain began in the coal mines of Asturias, where they brought together between 40,000 and 50,000 miners between July and September 1963.
In 1962 they mainly affected Nalón, with Langreo as capital, and Caudal, with Mieres.
These strikes, which began in the spring of 1962, are a significant stage in the history of Francoist Spain, regime which prohibited any right to strike in application of the principles of national unionism, and were the first major social movement since the end of the Civil War.
